Membership vs Loyalty Points — Which Do You Need?
Both reward repeat customers, but they work differently:
| Loyalty Points | Membership | |
|---|---|---|
| How it rewards | Customers earn points on each paid order, then redeem them for rewards | Enrolled members get an ongoing benefit (e.g. 10% off) on their orders |
| Who gets it | Everyone, automatically | Only customers enrolled in a plan |
| When it ends | Points expire per your expiry rule | The membership expires after the plan’s duration, or never if permanent |
They are not either/or — many businesses run both: points for everyone, plus a membership tier for regulars. See Setting Up Your Loyalty Points Program for points, and Setting Up Your Store Credit Program for prepaid wallets.
Before You Start
-
Decide your tiers and what each one gives — for example Silver 5% off, Gold 10% off.
-
Decide how long a membership lasts. A duration in months means it expires automatically; leaving it empty makes it permanent.
-
Decide whether a plan is visible to customers (Public) or something only your team can assign (Internal Only).
Where to Find Membership Settings
-
Click the ⚙️ Settings icon in the top-right corner of your EasyBiz Console.
-
Under the Marketing section, click Membership .
-
You will see the Membership Plans page. If you have not created any yet, it shows “No membership plans yet. Create your first plan to get started.”
Create a Membership Plan
-
Click Add Plan at the top right.
-
Fill in the plan details below.
-
Click Save .
Plan Title
The name customers and staff see — for example “Gold Member”.
Description (optional)
A short line explaining the plan, useful when you run several tiers.
Status
| Pick this | Result |
|---|---|
| Public | The plan is visible as a normal membership offering |
| Internal Only | The plan is hidden from customers — your team assigns it case by case |
Duration (months, leave empty for permanent)
How long a membership lasts from the day the customer joins — for example 12 for a one-year membership. When the duration is up, the membership expires automatically. Leave it empty for a membership that never expires.
Benefits
Each benefit row has a type and a percentage value:
| Benefit type | Result |
|---|---|
| Direct Discount | The member’s orders are discounted by this percentage |
| Cash Back | The member earns this percentage of their spending back |
Click + Add Benefit to give one plan more than one benefit.
Enrolling Customers
Each customer can hold one active membership at a time. To move a member to a different plan, their current membership must be revoked first, then they can join the new plan. When a plan has a duration, the expiry date is set automatically from the join date, and the membership ends on its own when that date passes.
Once enrolled, the member’s benefits are linked to their customer profile — there is nothing for staff to key in at the counter. When a member is attached to an order, their plan benefits apply to qualifying orders automatically at checkout.
Where Staff See a Customer’s Membership
-
Contact profile: open a customer’s contact page — the Loyalty section shows a Membership row with the plan name and an Active label, or None if they are not a member. Store Credit and Points balances appear in the same section.
-
POS order detail: the Loyalty section on an order shows the customer’s membership alongside their store credit and points, so counter staff always know who they are serving.
Check It Worked
-
Your new plan appears on the Membership Plans page with its title and status.
-
Enroll a test customer (your own profile works well), then open their contact page — the Loyalty section should show the plan name marked Active.
-
Place a test order for that customer and confirm the member benefit is reflected in the pricing.
Retiring a Plan
Open the plan from the Membership Plans page and click Disable Plan . A disabled plan can no longer be joined. Customers already enrolled keep their membership until it expires or is revoked.
FAQs
Can a customer be in two plans at once?
No. Each customer holds one active membership at a time. Revoke the current membership before enrolling them in a different plan.
What happens when a membership expires?
The membership ends automatically at the end of its duration, and the plan’s benefits stop applying to new orders. The customer can be enrolled again to renew.
What is Internal Only status for?
For plans you do not advertise — for example a VIP tier you grant personally to your best customers, or a staff-and-family plan. The plan works the same; it is just not shown as a public offering.
Do membership benefits stack with loyalty points?
They are separate programs. A member can still earn loyalty points on paid orders under your points earning rules, in addition to their membership benefit.
Can I change a plan’s benefits after customers have joined?
You can edit the plan, but review it carefully — the plan’s terms are what members signed up for. For a materially different offer, consider creating a new plan and enrolling customers into it as their current memberships end.
